is it safe to buy "grey" lens

was looking at tamron 17-50 and was offered a "grey" price....the question is it safe to buy a gray set???

Do a search, reply doesn't change, not in 8000 years. Since you joined 3 years ago, you should know how it works. Why bother starting another thread on yet another same topic again?

Grey or not, they all come from the same factory, just different distribution sources. So the quality is just the same. You just have to decide for yourself if you think international warranty is worth it or not.

if grey set is close to price in BnS, go for the grey (some shops give in-house warranty). otherwise, get from BnS (coz minimal or no warranty) or get the bnew local set.

Its higher a risk with lens involving more electronics. Those that comes with VR/IS/OS and SWM/USM/HSM probably has more points of possible failure. Simples lenses probably ain't much of a problem.

Grey lenses are safe by all means if they don't spoil within 1 year and end up needing repair. Of course you can improve your odds by testing the lens thoroughly first before buying. Also, cheaper lenses tend to be less worth it since the amount you save is even less.

But that said, sh1t happens... My photo club in NUS bought a Sigma 50-150 F2.8 a few mths back and within a few weeks the AF died. Good thing for the warranty..
