is hood impt for 70-200/f4?

the hood on 70-200/f4 is rather massive and hinders the use of a polariser. especially if i use a 77mm polariser with 67-77 step ring (maybe no space to put hood even). so sacrificing the hood might be necessary - does it cause much loss of contrast or flare?

do most of u use it without hood anyway?

There are 3rd party lens hood that can be screwed onto the pol. so you can adjust the pol. by rotating the hood. Have not tried that my self though, don't know if it will cause vignetting.

dennis, is ur 70-200 the f2.8? how do u find it if u dun hood it?
i dun suppose u use slim filters right? no problems?
