information on being a Human Resource Professional

Hello everyone,

I've being thinking some time about making a career switch, and I'd like to make a foray into the HR industry.

Besides knowing my strengths in planning, coord and communciation, plus a strong interest to work with people on people matters, I'd like to hear the insights into the work of HR professionals. Been told there's lots of paperwork (esp C&B related, T&D also) and being lady-dominated, can be intimidating for a guys, that's ME.

Any stories and experiences to share?? Pls do.

as an ex-hr person, i would say that to find an area of specialisation which interests you. develop yourself in that direction. do not be a generalist.

Join the management consultancy business. This way, u can "hear the insights into the work of HR professionals"

Check out these companies if u r interested: - Mercer, Watson Wyatt, Hewitt, Towers Perrin, Hay Group, Deltron, etc...

yep, i agree that being a generalist is not a good idea in the long run.. however, this is only the start point for me.. and i'd like to get a solid grounding first across the whole spectrum of HR activities.

have an interview w/ Venture Corp lined up this wk.. as i'm pretty 'green' in the hr field, any advice for me in the meeting w/ senior stakeholders from other business partners (IT, supply chain side, mftg)?
