How to tell a lens code from a lens?

Hi Fellow CSers, how do u tell the lens code of a lens? from the box? Thank you for clearing my doubts. I still cant find it lol

The box will only tell you what's the serial number. To check for the lens code, look at the lens mount area. The lens code begins with U$XXXX where $ can be A-Z (each representing different year of manufacture) and XXXX are 4 numeric digits.

It was also mentioned by other members that some new lenses do not come with lens code.
