Not sure, if this is due to poor contacts. When I mounted my SB-600 on D80 ( tried with both 50mm F1.8 and 18-200 VR l) , it tends to self trigger on random occasions. This is very annoying and can be dangerous incase it accidentally flashes on someone close.
When I remove it from the camera I dont have this problem. Battery is OK. I did google and searched this sub forum and not able to find simialar issues

I've 2 events to covers this weekend (helping neighbours ) and really worried if if will let me down.

Appreciate any advice from fellow forumers - thanks.

same as D200's hotshoe...

U can sent to nikon service center, to check the flash and the D80 hotshoe.

might be the hotshoe problem... clean the contacts on both the camera and the flash.

thanks guys, funny its just slightly over a year now :(.

It's no more the same Nikon quality. My F60 and third party flash lasted over 10 years and still ok. I even dropped it on hard floor, only the lens mount cracked (on the lens) the plastic F60 body is really durable.
