Having Fun with Shooting Film

love this shot! can i ask how you scan your slides to digital files? i tried scanning myself and it is very hard for me to get the accuracy in colour. the white balance or colour always seems to be off and is not close to my slides at all.

i got mine developed and scanned at Shalom Colour at Bras Basah..the service is good and near to my workplace so decide to go to them instead of buying a scanner and scan it myself :)

My first attempt doing a long exposure on film. Shot using MZ-30 and Pentax-F 35-70, on Kodak Ultramax 400.
I did not use a tripod, as I was just coming back from work and found the sky to be very nice.
Just put the camera on bench and put some tissue and my cell phone for the camera to face upward, lol :-)

This one using same film and camera, but lens is Pentax-A 50 mm f2.0

In the film days, I used ASA100 for day and ASA400 for night or low light.
ASA400 (ISO400) being fast film, is grainy.
Nowadays, I still use ASA100 or 200 for day outdoor shoot.

anyone tried new portra 800? they said the film has really fine grain ;)

I'm still struggling in my scanning workflow, it seems whatever films I shoot, ektar, portra, they come out like kodak colorplus

perhaps I need to invest in better software, vuescan and silverfast have film profile and multi exposure option.

here's one from expired fuji superia 1600, exposed at 800

was on Superia 200, but I bumped the ISO to 1250 just so I can get a high enough shutter speed. Turns out super grainy, but I like them!

It's difficult to nail the focus on an AF focusing screen.

Keep this thread up. Shooting film is indeed a lot of fun.

nope, I didn't ask any push/pull whatever. Normal process. :)
but damn, those agfa grains are...unsightly. I've never liked Agfa. :b

Glad to see that this thread is still going strong. Seems like folks still love film.

I hv just acquired a K1000, thinking of going back to basics and film, after shooting for a while in digital.

However, as i walked along Peninsular, Funan area just now during lunch, to get a neck strap for my K1000, somehow felt a bit disappointed.

Most shops there don't carry much Pentax accessories. Emphasis seems to be on Nikon and Canon. Pity.

Check the film price at CP for the Kodak BW400CN and discovered that it has risen to $11. Sales people told me that it is because demand not high, hence production low and hence price high.

Just wonder how long can film survive. Pity. Just like many of you, I am coming back to film. Hope that it won't be gone too soon.

btw, i am new to Pentax. Would like to know which are the more Pentax friendly shops in singapore

"They don't have the marketing of Canon or Nikon...."
that probably explains....

for cheap film, fuji 200 iso and kodak 400 are quite cheap in those fuji photo printing shop. less than 4 sgd per roll

at funan, you can try SLR Revolution or Alan Photo. TK Photo may have old stock of pentax film camera/accessories.

at simlim, try orient photo.

Don't look at accessories now. Still too early and imo not really necessary for a film camera.
What do you need that you can't find btw??
Pentaxians are a resourceful bunch to get stuff (ebay, forums, BnS on CS, Gmarket, HK, China)
(if not, they won't be using Pentax anyway and would just have followed everyone else with the "I use you also use" safe mentality) :D

Film, as suggested, try those film development shops. Some sell cheap. ~$4-5
You can also try Chiff Cameras. He is well stocked with film and they are pretty cheap.
There are also some mass orders going around for film on CS (look at the MO section)

Pentax friendly shops :
Orient Photo
SLR Revolution
Manly
MS Color

I'm not that in the 'know' for shops, the others probably know more shops.

was looking for a neck strap with a "Pentax".
In the end, settled with a $20 neoprene padded all black. Looks quite good with the K1000. LOL
Managed to secure 3 rolls of BW400CN too at more reasonable price.
