Hi there! Has anyone tried bringing in a DSLR and managed to take concert photos in Esplanade Concert Hall? Are they very strict in their security checks and is it possible to steal a few shots during the concert?

Coz I am going for one next week and really hope to take some pics.... can anyone share their experiences with me?

Thanks!

i did manage before.
to avoid attention, never carry your dslr in a camera bag.
reduce brightness on your cam lcd, off the AF beam if required.

lastly, good luck in stealing a few shots without being spotted, provided if the lightings are off when the concert begins.

Cool! Tks for the tips!

Do they actually check your bag at the entrance? say if I carry a normal handbag and put the dslr inside, will they ask to check all handbags? or is it better if i put the dslr in a plastic bag, to make it look like I have just done some shopping.....

Tks!!

Actually, depending on the nature of the performance, it can be quite a distraction for the other audience.

i wore my teenage ninja turtle suit and hid the camera inside the shell

during the performance, i activated the camera using my remote and turning around and kneeling on my seat.

this will definitely work, i never had any security personnel bother me!

Be considerate to other audience is a must when going to concert.

It's actually a guitar concert.... wont be taking many photos, just a couple and w/o flash, so hopefully minimal disturbances to other audience ...

They check all bags, and when they see your DSLR they will just remind you not to use it.

Personally, I feel that PnS is more of a nuisance since they are the ones usually guilty of flashing and video recording. The only trouble with DSLR is the shutter click.

I shoot depending on the choice of music genre. Simply put, if the shutter is audible, put the camera away. But nowadays, I barely bring my DSLR along. It gets in the way of dancing. :bsmilie:

i think it all depends on luck... and im never lucky...

1. i went for a show in esplandae.. i manage to smuggle the cam in wrap in my shawl...true enuff the shutter sound sold me off and i was asked and escorted to the locker.
2. during a concert in indoor stadium, even before i enter, they check my bag and immediately i was ask to deposit my cam...

however.... during my last concert in indoor stadium... forking hell.. i saw alot of DSLR around me snapping awae like no one biz.... ouch!

so end day... good luck =)

Oh ok.... i shall not be a nuisance to the other pple watching the concert then.... better to concentrate on the show itself than keep worrying about being spotted ....

Thanks all for all your advice :)

is either your cam body is too big or your zoom lens is too long.
but it really does depend on luck one.

as for the mirror sound, wait till the music is at its loudest, quickly fire off a few shots and try to be as discreet as possible.

i think is easier to smuggle in a micro 4/3 than a mirror dslr.

It also depends on the performer's agency. Hence you see the rules enforced differently at times..
