Hi guys!

I have an epson v 600 as a result i scan my films.

When i look at the film against a lightsource its nice and clean but when i scan sometimes it pick up dirt.

My query is what is the best way to handle the film to ensure that it doesnt pick up dirt etc. Are their any particular cloth etc to clean the neg and the scanner.

Thanks a lot!

Don't recommend cloths, as they pick up the dirt.. it may scratch the surfaces (of film or scanner) when u wipe it again the second time. Use compressed air instead to blow off dust. You can buy them at challenger.. don't see anywhere else have..

but dust is ubiquitous.. very hard to eliminate 100% if its just a few small specks, easier to DI off than to rescan..

Anti-static cloth by ILFORD to clean the scanner glass. Re-wash the film if it's too dirty.

Always use the blower first.

Remember to keep your hands dry and keep the cloth in the air-tight bag because the ILFORD cloth is coated.

If the coating is gone, you will be depositing dust instead of picking up dust; A nasty situation.

I think i ll stick to using a blower for now.

If it is color and not too bad, digital ICE should solve the problem. For traditonal B&W, sadly you have to keep it as clean as possible.

I discovered that using Hypo clearing agent removes alot of strange marks and dirt. Altho hypo ckearing is supposed to remove the hypo - which affects storage lifespan - i dunno why it makes such a difference my negatives are alot cleaner.

I find trying in air con room got less dust than open air
