Or did your fren accidentally adjust the contrast n brightness of the LCD to dim/low? mayb can try compare the LCD preview pics and the viewfinder preview pics?

No. Before focus lock, the LCD preview is OK. When focus lock, it becomes dark or total black due to the settings.

be glad at least it happen only after focusing... iirc last time lumix like fz20 have this problem without even focus locking... (not sure there is any setting to go around it :dunno: )
