Hi,

Recently was fielded with these questions:

1. What is a Grey Set? - No warranty or Limited (Shop / Local) Warranty?

2. Just an issue of Warranty or does the quality (or lack of it) show? Imagine, if you are faced with issue of getting a Grey set for $400 less for a lens, how?

Any experienced users to comment?

Thanks

go for grey sets only if price similar to second hand where warranty is almost or already over.

I don't have a problem with Grey sets. Afterall, it's the exact same lens they are selling, except that it doesn't have a local warranty (note the word local. Grey sets are supposed to have warranty.... in the respective countries in which they are supposed to be sold.)

Was looking for a grey Tokina 12-24mm (the price is even cheaper than second hand lens of the same type), but unfortunately there wasn't any stocks left.... so had to buy the official version.

Warranty is one of the last thing on my mind when buying lenses, which is why almost 3/4 of all my lenses are second hand.
