Try that you'll be jailed for a minimum of 12 years and barred from standing for election for life.

:)

Of course, we won't risk doing that but anything can be done ........... if it is done in a "discreet" manner ..... especially if you know where the loopholes are ............. :)

It can be cooked without breaching legal parameters.

For example, before or after grant is taken into consideration?

...... This is Singapore ........ and we don't build 2 casinos here for nothing ................. ;) .

Do you all even go to those places other than to take pictures?

I'm surrounded by them...amusing...

Unlike your casionos over there in the US... for all Singaporean and PRs who want to enter the local casino, you have to pay $100 entry fee. So in essence, you lost even before you enter. heheh.

All this in the name to discourage the people with the least means for gambling to not go in. Wrap that around your head for a while and simmer over the logic of it. heh

The party has now got a strong mandate to deal with the Indons to demand clean air. :)

....they have been holding the mandate for the last 50 years but the situation has got worse over the years .....It's a sign that we have again voted the wrong candidate for the environment ministry into parliament ...... :)

The Indonesians must think that they are doing a favour by giving die-hard smokers here a free puff ....:bsmilie:

I think they should get out there to seed the clouds.

You want him to take over transport?

Don't bitch. We asked for it.

The majority of Singaporeans are ok with status quo. They are prepared to accept whatever policies the govt is going to launch.

There are many reasons why the majority is willing to accept which the opposition failed to realise or overlooked it.

Higher GST looms on the horizon as government seeks new revenue streams

It’s a prime candidate for adjustment, experts say.

After winning a historic election, Singapore’s ruling party is expected to stick to the relatively more populist policies that it has unveiled in recent years.

According to a report by BMI Research, the government will need new revenue streams as it seeks to strengthen social safety nets and increase support for low-income elderly citizens.

“One key area to watch will be the goods and services tax (GST), which has been utilised by the government as a tool to shore up revenue amid declining income and corporate tax rates over the past two decades,” BMI Research said.

“While the recent increase in the top marginal income tax rate will provide some support to the government's annual intake, Singapore's ageing population and the government's growing commitment towards supporting low-income elderly citizens will likely necessitate additional revenue streams, and an increment to the current GST level of 7.0% is a prime candidate for adjustment,” the report added.

...for all Singaporean and PRs who want to enter the local casino...

That is some evil BS right there and look at all the revenue it generates...wow

I agree with the anti gambling sentiment though...I laugh and shake my head at the people around here who spend every weekend blowing all their dough only to wake up Monday morning broke jokes.

Indian casino here in America are so rich they are now into money lending...it is amazing how fast I can get instant money in my bank account nowadays. Something is inherently fishy about that whole deal (jewish Indians haha) and your big triple tower thing that you have to pay through the nose to visit...

I can't believe you all accept that...oh well I guess the man always has his plan no matter where you go... ;(

What is done with all that cash??? How much is pocketed and I don't believe for a New York minute that none of it is pocketed?

I should add that in their concern about a possible gambling problem here, they were 'very concern' thus they were cautious who they invite to partner the opening of Singapore's first casino which in itself involved a very public event where all the who's who of casino moguls from the world over were invited to pitch, public consultation in part to discuss programs ideas and regulations (like the $100 penalty for locals) to control and limit the exposure of gambling towards local and PRs to ensure the ills of gambling addictions are kept low.

While going thru the hoopla of planning and opening our first casino after decades of thinking about it and having the idea shelved because of the gambling ills and stigma .. ..suddenly we ended up with TWO CASINOS projects instead when all the dust settled. LOL. Go figure.

We have two casinos it's because of Feng Shui consideration of balancing light, water and wind. :)
