They're equally good in reviews and functionality for a beginner. Just thought to gather some opinions, whys and why-nots.

Thanks fellas

And..yeah I know the G1 isn't exactly a full fledged DSLR but it comes close in pic quality and functions :)

If you never use DSLR b4 than go for it, unless you only want a better compact camera.
Dont waste money upgrading later on.
If you are using DSLR than getting G1 is because you already know what you want.

You compare the resales value yourself.

You want to start then go for DSLR if not any compact will do.

I'd say D60/D40. you get a massively larger range of lenses to work with, and they're pretty compact anyway.

I'm curious about why you'd want a G1 instead?

Well, is quality of image, or size of the camera more important?

If former, go with the D60. If size, go with the G1.

you sacrifice size for choice of lenses. that's about it. :)

wait for a while and you can get G1H (with HD video) or olympus offering for micro4/3 which looks a lot like a rangefinder.

Wait instead of the D60 replacement (D5000) which comes with articulating LCD
