Hi all,

After doing my homework,
I am deciding between a Fz28 and a LX3.

Which do yall recommend?
I'm open to consider the other Lumix-s, but am eyeing mainly a compact.

Thanks.

I recommend TZ7 (12x zoom) very compact at $570

BTW FZ28 is going to be replaced by FZ38, stocks are coming this month

LX3 produces good IQ plus an f2 fast lens, but some users find the 2.5X zoom limiting.
If you can live with this range go for it else TZ7 is a good alternative.

yea i think u should have 3 choice...
FZ28, LX3 or TZ7

ok.. FZ28.. go for 2nd hand... coz it doesn't matter, it will be just as great, and it pretty cheap... if u wanna go 1st hand, wait for FZ38 to come out

comparing this 3 again... wat type of photographer are u?? does size matter?... do u go party every weekend, such tat u take photo inside a club???

if size does matter.. u can strike out fz28 straight away, coz its the biggest among them

but looking at ur photo post at clubsnap, it seem like u are more into artistic photography than casual user... so i will suggest u to get a 2nd hand FZ28 or FZ18... coz i think u might wanna go into DSLR after tat... all in all, its just my assumption...

personally used LX3 for an hour or so and currently own FZ28.

Assumption: size does not matter....
- to choose between the 2... it'll be FZ28 (based on features).

Assumption: size DOES matter...
- then you have to choose between T27 and LX3.. i'll be T27 for me.

i dun dislike LX3... but i just think as a compact camera.. its not exactly very convenient due to its shape (very classic camera look.. doesnt keep well).. and the lack of usable ZOOM (sorry.. 2.5X is not usable IMO).

Size doesnt matter, and that is a pretty accurate assumption you made! i do like artistic photography, but i will also be using it for street photography. the zom will be great for tt.

thanks all, seems like now its between Fz28 & TZ7.

What is the dfference between the Fz38 and Fz28?
hardly any difference, mainly is all the software and some function improvement or add on... 1 key function tat caught my eye for fz38 is the film mode function... wich lx3 have... it's vivid mode is really wonderful...

ok now u have 2 choice... FZ28 or TZ7

FZ28 is to buy 2nd hand, so tat its cheap and selling it off cheaper won't be a problem, good to keep as spare cam also... coz in the end u might not like to bring a dslr for travelling... fz28 will do the job...

TZ7, difficult to find a 2nd hand, but still advisable to buy it, coz once u have dslr, it will be good to have a good spare compact at ur side, either to take video, or take the special moment kind of shot... to elaborate more, its like when u use DSLR, u put on a tele lens, and walk about shoot... then suddenly, something close infront u wanna shoot, but u know u dun have time to switch to wide angle for ur dslr, then u just took out ur compact cam from u pocket and snap... u got it...

i have been using a FZ18, and just switch to dslr, just sold my fz18 too.. and now missing it...

i believe the lx3 is better utilised if you're familiar with some of the manual controls (even though fz28 and fz38 also allows that)...
