Ever thought of being a photographer as a profession?

On the 21st Oct 2012, the Youth Executive Committee (YEC) of Joo Chiat Community Club has invited 4 speakers to share their experiences on ?Life as a Photographer?.
There will also be a Photo Contest where you will stand a chance to win attractive prizes!

The Speakers:

1. Francis Lee

Francis Lee is no stranger to Photography. Having spent 15 years as a professional photographer and photography instructor, Francis has sharpened his skills on the importance of visual engagement. Imposing high standards on himself, Francis is always in the pursuit of excellence; be it when he shoots for assignments, or in the midst of conducting photography courses.

With more than 10 years of teaching experience, his photography courses have been highly acclaimed. His programs are endorsed by The National Arts Council and The People?s Association. Before joining SPH in 1997, Francis worked for a diverse range of organizations and numerous visual--‐art related agencies. In most roles, he was responsible for compounding, editing and presenting story?telling visuals.

2. Zamrud

An accountant by profession, Zamrud has been based in Australia for 6 years working with a large conglomerate. Art flows in his blood, with experiences early in life through painting during his school days in Singapore. Embracing photography is a natural extension to that interest.

Beginning his passion with film photography 26 years ago, Zamrud was introduced into Professional Photography through a Japanese photographer in 1990; this commenced a 4--‐year journey as his prot?g?. Today, Zamrud?s main focus in his art lies in landscape and portraits.

Having returned to Singapore, Zamrud has been spreading the knowledge of photography for the past 8 years Awards/Special mention

3. Edmund Sim

Edmund Sim started his professional photography in 2009 in pilgrimage of life?s greatest mysteries ? ?Seeking a legacy?.

In his first year, he was accepted as a member of the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association AG|WPJA. With a gentle approach in working with people and a love of capturing images of life, emotion and relationships, his work allows them to re--‐visit the day, time and over again through stories told by their albums.

During his photography journey, he has founded a Photography Society ? East Coast Photographers ? at his community grassroots level. He also chairs the Photography Club for the YEC ? Joo Chiat Community Centre where he conducts courses for new photographers. Edmund also believes in promoting community spirit by volunteering the groups? photography services to charitable organization in their outreach.

?Photography has an amazing power to influence, motivate and bring an event back to life. I find it much joy and fulfilment to be able to combine my passion, my hobby, my job and my life through a simple activity call Photography? ? Edmund Sim

4. Hart Tan

Hart Tan founded Tomato Photo in 2008 following the birth of his eldest child, Alex. Since then, they have been on an amazing journey. He has photographed more than 1000 families since 2008 and in his eyes; photography is a tool to connect with people. Tomato Photo has built a solid reputation to be one of the most sought after studios in Singapore which lends itself to their unique way to connect with people and its natural imagery that put emphasis on Feel, Mood and Moments. He is blessed with three charming little boys whom he adores and would give up the world for them. His children are part of the reason behind his success. The motivation is sharing the joy of preserving memories of children which is so precious and unfortunately irreversible

Attach a photo to the registration email with all information required for the registration for this talk. Participants for this contest are to submit only 1 (ONE) Photo.

Prizes:
1st Prize - $100 Gift Voucher
2nd Prize - $50 Gift Voucher
3rd Prize - $30 Gift Voucher

Theme:
Photo with the theme of ?Nation Building, Family Bonding?.

Photo Requirements:
1. File Rename: <YourName><NRIC>.jpg
2. Image Size: Long Edge at least 1920pix
3. File Size: Not more than 2.5mb
4. No Watermarks

Terms:
(i) Releases
Participants must ensure that they have full rights to the photo that they are to submit for the photo contest. By submitting the photos, participants agree to release all copyrights to the organizers for this and related event.

(ii) Judging
The entries selected will be judge by the speakers of the event. Winners will be chosen on the 21st Oct 2012. Winners have to be present to receive the prizes. The judges will have full and final discretion for the outcome of the contest.

(iii) Right to cancel or Suspend Contest
If for any reason contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, Trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of the organizers that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the organizers reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. If Sponsor elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, Sponsor will not retain any rights in the submitted photographs.
