I tried to show the translucence of this flower by using backlighting. Does the lighting and composition work?

You captured the translucence well, however I feel the background is too distracting and it doesn't suit the subject. A view of the beach and sea might be a better background.

Lighting doesn't work for me, seeems like your background is brighter than your subject.

As for compsotion wise, you could shift the flower alittle higher, the dark support is good. gives it a sense od strength.

Contrary to a bro's preference here, I dislike the bokeh, Are you using a 50mm 1.8 from canon?

Thks for the comments!

I used an aperture of 5.6 at 75mm.

hmm, if you had a 50 f/1.8 and shoot the exact same shot the bokeh would be even nicer. =)

well, thats provided you have one.

I think its a great picture, the lighting is nice, the flower enjoying a nice backlighting effect.

Yet in this case the negative space to me is too much, try a portrait crop or minimise the negative space.

The flower needs more attention in the framing, other than that
