This is defintely not a review cos I'm not an expert but more of trying out the different combos that I currently have. As all the shots were handheld, I dun think it does resolve the true sharpnest of the lens. :)

will nikon exchange for me a new piece ? because i bought it in malaysia

Hi Beachboy,

It's a very common policy to get brand new exchanges from the retail outlets only. E.g. The retailer can order a new one, exhange it with you, then send it in for another new piece. But most consumer electronics companies will not do brand new exchanges with the consumers directly. Even companies that deal with corporates, it's rare to exchange direct. Usually you do it thru the channels.

That is why it's important to buy from reliable dependable shops. And avoid those dodgy ah niao ah kow shops. In your case, whatever the reason for buying across the causeway is turning out to be a lot of trouble.

one problem with the shops doing the exchange like this is that you can't be sure what they do with the other set.

each manufactorer's policy differs in different industries. some will take the old sets back from retailers, recond them, and send them back out, some will take back, recond and sell to staff.

the problem is with small retailers who exchange a set for you, which bears minor or cosmetic faults, and then passes that to the next person with the hope that the next person either doesn't see it, or doesn't make a fuss.

There are too many consumer electronic companies out there to be able to say for certain this policy is adopted by everybody. But it's a common one.

You have the computer peripherals shops in mind? I guess many of the shops around are just too lazy to get it done the proper way. It's easier to let the customer be the sucker and do the work. Kind of like QC issues, but that is another story.

yeah, which is why the premise of "caveat emptor" applies.

we just have to be extra careful when buying something. and personally, i'm always alittle wary when in-shop exchange is done.

big difference if the manufacturer is the one who publicly states the 1-1 return policy.

many manufacturers do not as a matter of principle take faulty sets back from their retailers. they usually consider them sales, and faulty sets fall under after sales.

(hope we're not OTing too far? apologies to the thread starter)
