flash for Ricoh RF?

Hi,

Anybody has tried to use external flash on Ricoh Rangefinders?
Im wondering which brands may work. I tried metz 54 but it didnt fire, do i need to set anything? I just mounted it to my cousin's Ricoh 500 and set the RF to auto.. but didn't fire.
