The issue comes down to "What are you looking for?"

You want to change mood? Easy! But what mood are you looking for?

How can anyone give you advice when you do not know where you want to go?

ok one way of knowing what is available for selection in the first place is to list the moods/situations one can do and what you would do to change it.

My opinion is that you are looking at the wrong things.

My suggestion for you is to avoid the bounce light, gaussian blur, desaturation, masking etc. These techniques are there to assist you. But they do not teach you how to see.

If you are interested in portrait photography, start by taking an interest in people. A real genuine interest in people. Do not look at them as mere objects for your photographs. Take your friends to the parks, or in any place where there is light - all kinds of light, and see how these lights create moods with your friends as they interact. Learn to see what moves you. And then take the photographs.

You can also see how others make such photographs - through forums and books.

Then you will realise that the Gaussian blur etc, are really not that necessary.

hmmmm looking at the wrong things... possible.

ok, noted~

Sadly, it doesn't work this way.

This is not like going to a restaurant and deciding what you want based on what's on the menu. At least for a restaurant, the menu is finite length, and you can choose only based on what they offer.

The menu is infinite for photography.

You can create a heroic look, a cunning look, a Darth Maul look, a happy look, any kind of look you want in a photo.

So the question of what you want must be answered 1st before anyone can give you advice. If you want people to list what you can get before you decide what you want, the list will be too long....

what student say is correct... if you wanna take portraiture, you must take it as it is... and not anyhow take and use ps to change it... a pro photographer once told me that ...

hmmm after much deep down thinking. i think i know what the real problem is.

its just me! because i have no interest in portrait photography at all. so that affects my creativity, workflow and photos.

that means i'll stay out of this turf until i'm ready or sure that i want to go into portrait photography.

thanks guys~
