Experiences with the new K-7 Camera

Came across this French photography magazine at the Holland V news stand, and they had a review for the K-7 in it! But I wasn't going to pay $30 for the magazine, so I found their article online instead.... it seems like a condensed version of what they had in the printed magazine though, not the whole thing.

I'll just jump to the conclusion: "On the whole, we see an interesting evolution of the K20D, but it does not amount up to a revolution which will justify (unless we absolutely must have the video function) a switch to the new model. On the other hand, the evolution of the IQ (which only the test can evaluate) and the move to a next generation high-res screen will excite newcomers looking for a true blue "pro" body to strongly consider Pentax's offering. More so as the release price (available mid June), 1250euros body only and 1350euros with the new WR standard 18-55mm zoom and 1600euros for the double kit (with the new 50-200mm WR), is very attractive for a camera endowed with rarely seen functionalities and high quality characteristics."

They sound positive, but not too impressed... :bsmilie:

How I wish emjay would bundle it with the 18-55 and 50-200... then it would be perfect!

Currently we can only order one kit bundle, not two kits set due to the high price of DA50-200WR. But I'm sure we'd see this lens brought in if the demand is high ;)

Bro, any idea if the Battery Grips will be in together?? I email Ronald.. but no respond..

Just went through the whole K-7 manual, found out this cool feature on page 252:

Readjusting Images Shot in JPEG Format

You can readjust Custom Image and White Balance for images shot in
JPEG format immediately after shooting them without deteriorating image
quality.
...

Caution: The image can be readjusted only right after being shot. Adjustments cannot be made after new images are shot or the camera is turned off.

Seems the camera keeps the raw data for each shot in RAM even when you take the photo in JPG format, the RAW data won't be cleared until the next pic is taken or the camera is switched off. So if you forget to change white balance to a proper one when you take the photo in JPG format, you can immediately do white balance and color/saturation/contrast adjustment w/o any IQ loss. That's way better than you do adjustment on the JPG file on your PC afterwards. This might save some good shots (but in bad WB or color) even you shoot in JPG format.

This is very cool don't you think?

Saw that feature also. Very cool.

Battery grip will only make the K7 cumbersome .... defeats the purpose of having a small camera design ......... ..... just kidding ............. :bsmilie:

K20D also has a similar feature, but only works on RAW files :) K-7 works on the last photo even it's in JPG format

I also find the cropping image in Playback mode on page 239 cool too.:)

Wow... u guys actually read the manual... :bsmilie:

i just noe how to set iso, WB, shooting mode, flash and EV compensation thats all...

Definitely. Reminds me of the time I shot a candid of a camera-shy friend outdoors in tungsten / JPG mode.. and not on purpose! Turned out ghastly blue.. and I never could quite get back the proper colours in pp.

It remains one of my fave portraits. :)

Thanks! I wonder if I can change my order from body only to body+lens kit?
