Qing Ming.
The time of the year where the living pay respects to those loved ones who have left. Families visit temples, graveyards where they burn offerings for a "better afterlife".
The heavens beckon.
Qing Ming period gave me an excuse to explore Bukit Brown, so i dropped in yesterday.
Waiting.
The dead are waiting.
The grave caretakers are waiting...
I invite you to drop by http://tengkiatstories.tumblr.com for the rest of the story.
Thank you very much. I look forward to your stories.
Thanks Jeff,
Indeed heaven and earth played a part. But it was man's intervention that made it possible. Our local contribution to the haze problem, a mound of burning and smouldering earth/ incense paper made my day.
Coincidentally, this scene greeted me as I walked out of the cinema after watching "Apprentice" by Singapore director Boo JunFeng.
The show is now showing till Wednesday. Try Cathay, cineleisure and film garde. Don't miss it.
The path to redemption or retribution _a xperia moment.
Exploring Singapore's backyard during my Saturday's walk always throw up some interesting finds.
Pockets of public spaces are found next to private properties. Over time these public spaces become an extension of the private space.
Someone's backyard _a xperia moment.
Thanks Stephen,
Do drop by for the above movie, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the kind words, bless you too.
There is no "medicine" for the misery inflicting parts of our world. Our hobby offers us a little distraction from these going ons.
Of late there had been much sad news from all over.
Nothing worse than a tragic interruption that hastens the circle of life.
Circle of life.
Let us look for the beauty among the mundane around us to chase away the blues.
Wall.
Chase away the blues.
Or go chase kites at Marina Barrage tomorrow.
Where all you see around you are happy faces.
Let us count our blessings and offer a prayer to those whose lives so tragically ended.
This is the month where tents will be the center of attraction across Singapore. For a start, two mornings ago, strong winds during morning peak hour brought down canopies at the Tuas Checkpoint, creating massive jam and flustered feathers. National day dinners under massive tentages and tentages for getai during the Chinese Hungry Ghost month will spread out across many parts of the island.
Once again it is a great time to check out the sights and sounds of getai and opera performances across our island.
Be careful of what's lurking in the scene.
The ubiquitous void decks, a public space which serves as a buffer zone for residents of HDB apartments are transformed into a private space for various celebrations. Tonight, it is being transformed into a very beautiful and colourful space in preparation for a Malay wedding. It takes a team of 8 experience workers about 8 hours to work their magic. Contact Rashid, a young,15 year veteran in this business at bungasutra@gmail.com if you have a Malay wedding in mind.
Born of a rock, Sun Wu Kong (Monkey King) was full of mischief, upsetting the order of heaven.
The fingers of Buddha representing the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth suppressed the Monkey King under the mountain(Wuzhi san/ Mt.5 fingers) where he remained imprisoned for 500yrs before being released by a monk ,Xuan Zang. Together with 2 other disciples, they embarked on a journey to India to bring Buddhist scriptures to China. Along the way they encountered many adventures. Which is the legend we now know as "Journey to the West."
The 7th month is always a time for getting photographers out on the streets. I was also on the lookout.
I was on my way home when i noticed a sea of red behind some trees opposite my house. I am always drawn to all things red. I stopped and returned to investigate.
I realised something was amissed and quickly made my way back home.
At the junction, i heard
"A crackling sound, a flash of light followed by a buzz in the air."
"Oh No!"...
(Deja vu. Go to page 14 of this thread.)
The living and dead had parted company. Every year for a month we share the same platform.
Another year, another 7th month.
Traditions form part of the fabric of our society. It all adds up to a colourful Singapore.
Since i like making up stories, sooner or later i will try making videos, definitely a lot harder than photography. i don't even know where to start. But attending a course at Objectiff put some perspective into the process.
Basically a movie boils down to 3 acts. Setup, Confrontation and Resolution and everything else in between leading to each.
I love photographing at night, "The Night is surreal..." clip was a spontaneous response to a moment, i couldn't see the performance by the drummers so i just filmed the people and one thing led to another. I hope the clip made sense, even the long black ending was deliberate, it was suppose to lead you into the night. The night is mysterious, it is seductive, it conceals yet reveals. Where it took you after the clip is up to you... You can return to the day now. Haha.
If there are amateurs/beginner scriptwriters, directors, cinematographers, sound engineers and of course actors among you doing personal work eg. 10minutes short film needing a hand, let me know. I'll be happy to help.
If you are interested in film making, here are some online courses that i am trying to follow.
Not long after i took up video, i saw this ad.
To make a musical video "找回那感觉" (translated "Finding that feeling") Lyrics at the side of ad.
So i thought why not give it a try.
So i drafted a story board. An old couple looking back at their young love reminising the beautiful life they had. With the song in mind, i imagined an old man waking up from bed, walked over to the balcony, looked back at his wife asleep and reminising their times together. I have scenes of a young couple strolling , running, laughing , loving. Green pastures, big blue skies, far horizon Bollywood style...Then i realised there was only me. An open call for actors among friends was met with stares of disbelief!
I was about to call it off when i got inspiration from the fluttering flags all over Singapore.
Once again my walks in the park set up the backdrop for my story.
So here's the story that evolved as i filmed one scene after another.
On a windless night, i looked out of my window and pondered. (i pretended to be someone considering leaving Singapore for greener pastures.)
HDB flats transiting to red/white fence.(home, country.)
Thinking of of crossing the red/white fence to greener pasture.
Memories of daughter growing up years, the girl looking back and man in red appearing.(what holds dear to me, red man hinted of Singapore.)
Direction signs and branches represented a confused mind.
Fallen ladder, a lost of heart.
Stepped drain led me back to Singapore(laundry and flag, so typical of our housing facade), vapour trails led me to a future. With memories of the past, reconnected my heart with the land.
The cat crossing the pillar represented a rebirth , followed by circular panning scene (full circle, restoring my heart for the land.) Finally, A new day.
The random serendipitous scenes of reading in bed, red and white fence, vapour trail and random cat made editing so much more fun.
