I read in one e-tailer's website that the 75-300mm IS has gone out of production too.

It's a pity, because the 200/1.8 is probably one of the strongest reasons for a Nikon user to switch to Canon.

No that would be daft seeing as USM doesn't even work as well as AF-S generally speaking. On the feature set anyway.
