From the specs.. 520mm @ 0.2m, what magnification ratio does that make? :bigeyes: and since the small sensor, it has better depth of field.. Will this camera do well in macro?

Small sensors give you a deeper DOF, while for macro you want a shallower DOF...

As for the cam, these Oly superzooms usually have really bad trouble with focusing, and ultra-zoom lenses will have distortion issues.

This camera seems to be more for attracting the people who like bigger numbers "look! 20x zoom!" than people who like picture quality.

well, understand.. but once you go into X1+ @ 180mm, you will understand why you want more DOF for spiders and dragonflies.. The DOF of 100 is paper thin you only see the eye of the spider in focus..

yeah, distortion is likely a problem.. Hopefully the photos won't look as distorted as fisheye.. :bsmilie:

Still must test out the lens, may not be as bad as it sounds. Like the Panasonic FZ10/20, their Lecia 12x zoom lenses are sharp like crazy.

for macro, deeper DOF is preferred, most of the the narrow DOF wun get you the whole insects to be in focus. shallow DOF would be preferred if you are doing macro abstract. thats also y alot of DSLR user shoot macro at f11-16 instead of wide open

That's because it's not really 36-432mm, and it only starts at f/2.8 at it's widest; it's not f/2.8 throughout the focal range. It's an equivalent due to the small sensor. For example, the FZ18 with an "18x" zoom at 28-504mm equiv is actually a 4.2-82.8 lens. You have a 6.67x crop factor.

what difference would one see between a 18x(28-504) and a 20x(28-560) zoom? :dunno: i doubt 90% of us would actually realise the difference, its more of marketing gimmick to hit the "twenty" digit.
