Can't wait :)
Hope will be something like the A6300 Hybrid AF system.
If possible, make use of the back-illuminated sensor technology like the A7R2
Remain @ 16MP
4K video good to have, but not really necessary.

I visited the LCE (London Camera Exchange) PRO CAMERA Show this morning in Southamton (UK). Both Olympus and Panasonic had stands and I had a chat with the reps from both camps to see if I could glean any news on upcoming models ! Lo and behold – Speaking to one of the Olympus Reps I was told that the EM1 Mk2 is definitely going to be launched at Photokina and will be on sale in October 2016. The new camera is said to be vastly (and this was reiterated) improved compared to the EM1. Several aspects of performance will be much improved including video which ‘ may’ include 4K ?
What will definately be improved is the ability of the new camera to be used for sports photography Olympus are said to be trying to further penetrate the PRO market and improving performance for sports photography is seen as an important goal to achieve increased PRO level recognition, sales and use. I mentioned that I enjoy motorsports photography and was told that the Mk2 would DEFINATELY be much improved for that type of fast moving capture. The rep advised that Olympus were going to put a lot of effort into a much bigger launch of the EM1 Mk2 and staff were already working on and towards the launch
With regard to 4K or no 4K on the new model I was told that there were hidden barriers to adopting this technology as Panasonic and other companies held ‘rights’ to some aspects to the technology involved and were more able to implement 4K at reasonable cost compared to what Olympus would have to pay in order to use it. It wasn’t clear whether 4K would be included but it certainly wasn’t ruled out . If true this perhaps explains (at least partly) why Olympus has been slow to adopt the technology.
With regard to the pricing of the new model I was told that despite the newer version being a huge improvement over the Mk1 there was no intention to increase the price significantly over the price of the EM1 – I would expect this to be with regard to pricing at launch – the EM1 being approximately £1300.00 (UK) at launch if I remember correctly.
Obviously much of this should be taken with a pinch of salt but from what was being said I think we can definately expect sales to commence before the end of the year and a launch at Photokina

No talk about handheld hi res?

No talk about handheld hi res?

Prob not anytime soon, seeing how sensor shift works - u prob need a super version of IBIS & superbly steady hands and no breathing if planning to do handheld.

Nikon was able to adopt 4k in their models, but it didnt reflect a significant jump in their pricing. The upcoming DL is even way cheaper than the sony.

Olympus said before at the launch of the EM5 MKII, 4k won't be anytime soon because they want to focus on the quality, which makes sense. I'm sure if they want, they can do a full sensor HD video aka 16mp even if no such thing exists yet, but if the video looks like high res crap, would you want to use it?

If the AF is vastly improved, then this is it!

Olympus don't seem to want to pay licensing fees for so many things, which is why they seem to lag behind others. They could have done great video years ago, if they wanted to pay for licenses to the various technologies. Considering how much they charge for bodies, they ought to include more.

I suppose? I rarely shoot videos with my E-M1 so it doesn't bother me. Having 4k is a "good to have" not a necessity. 1080p suits me just fine at the moment

I would rather have better dynamic range and better low noise performance for the new sensor than having 4k video.

Given it is a flagship, it really needs to have 4K

Like Nikon, Olympus don't manufacturer their own sensor. Thus most likely you would see a 20MP sensor from Sony which would have similar IQ as the GX8. In the end of the day, there is always a S/N penalty for the m43 sensor. That why the A6300 have better IQ in 4k than the GH4, but suffer more rolling shutter issue.

I have the GH4 and GX8 and I shoot quite a bit of video and 4K is yet to be necessary, nor is it easy to process on the computer.

I was amused that some recent E-M1 firmware update was supposed to have 4K video--in the form of time lapse photos.

With 1080HD still being the norm, 4k lacks support, if anything, it's just future proofing for now. 4K is basically just a megapixel race again. I'd rather have better quality videos than higher resolution videos

Maybe the EM1 II have 4k Photo mode and post focus function like those found in the Panny? Haha

Haha, no one knows for sure. But I think a better fps and further improved tracking system is confirmed as it seems to be targeting sports enthusiasts.

I'm frankly more interested in where will there be an updated MFT sensor in EM1 II, and I'm not referring to the one in Pen F.

While post focus is fun and 4k photo mode in the Panasonic camera features is no doubt useful, I'm a somewhat traditional person and I'd rather be limited mechanically and get 9fps with raw and full res than have reduced resolution.

As I told my student when he asked me what's so fun about using film, I told him "the fun is in the frustration". When you finally nail that shot, it makes that one shot all the more worthwhile, rather than being "meh, it was too easy".

Post focus is useful but not practical in the real world of action because there's some movement, and again, it's not raw. I'd rather use the focus stacking in the E-M1 and then just choose my photo from there.

I'm fairly certain the E-M1 MKii will have a new sensor, being the new flagship, it's silly not to use a new sensor because in the minds of consumers, there'll be that lingering thought that the new may not surpass the old.

EM1 mk2 better have THE new sensor from Sony. The combo sensor tech from Sony I pray
Hybrid AF system + back-illuminated sensor technology + remain 16MP = higher Dynamic Range + better low light performances.

Though Sony hold quite a large % of Olympus share - therefore Sony partially own Olympus -> ya ?
