Here's another reference on the price then in 2004 for FA 300mm f4.5 (no star for this, but I don't recall there's a normal FA 300mm f4.5);

Price Paid
$1400.00 at Singapore

I'm just basing on what the retail price then to estimate what may be the price of the new DA*. As the price doesn't seems to increase much between the DA* 16-50mm f2.8 (US$899) & FA* 28-70mm f2.8 (US$1.080 then);)

P.S. F* & FA* 300mm should worth what it's being sold on eBay now cause they are now collector's item. I agree should save more, just in case.

The problem is when Pentax can get these long tele lenses out to the market. If you want to enjoy using a long Pentax prime lens now, you have to pay for the extra.

Cant wait any longer, I just got myself a brand new FA*200/2.8 :D And I still think it looks a lot nicer than the new DA* version :) The price I paid is still killing me though ...

Yes I agree the FA series look so much nicer than the DA versions. Sadly Pentax has already closed a number of it's facilities in Japan and have probably contracted out the lens production/design to Tokina or some other company, so the new lenses could just be rebadged versions of existing designs just for Pentax. Not so uncommon from what I've been told.

FA* might look better (depending on individuals, personally I prefer black). But the point I'm making is what the released price maybe;) 1 thing that bugs me on these old white/grey lenses is that they tend to peel. Also the reason why I didn't get any Sigma EX lenses yet:think: Even if Pentax sub the lenses to unknown factory, it won't stop anyone of us from buying as long as the optical quality is there. It's just like Nike all tender out:bsmilie: Personally I'm really ok with Tokina, if they are making DA* lenses. Only problem is that C & N may also enjoy Tokina version of these DA* But hey, why not share the good things:bsmilie:

Well, most Canon L lenses are in white color, and I don't think you'd see them peeling that often. And if you see and hold the F*300/4.5 or the FA*200/2.8 in your hands, you'll know how well and solid these lenses were made.

Don't think Pentax would put that kind of materials and quality into the new DA* lenses, they'd most have some kind of plastic barrel just like the DA*16-50 and 50-135, which made them feels cheap, looks cheap too.

Sorry I was refering to F & FA white/grey lens. The Canon ones seems to have better paint job. Having handle both F* & FA*, you should know the possible of paint scratch & peeling is there. I have no doubt with the build of the lens. They are good lenses. DA* may not look great, but SDM & weatherseal is just sweet;) As long as they prove to be have good optical sharpness, don't think you'll be bother if it's all plastic. Else I don't think you'll want DA* when they are release:bsmilie:

Someone on dpreview posted some shots of the upcoming DA* 16-50mm & 50-135mm;)

Have not seen it posted before, but I came across two sample pictures at the Pentax website:

DA* 16-50 @50 f2.8

DA* 50-135 @135 f5.6

Enjoy

the 300mm reminded me of a picture where a group of HongKong/Taiwan/China pentax users played mahjong on a makeshift table made of the Pentax* lens as feet! haha

:bsmilie: China getting too rich liao :bsmilie: If you still have that picture please let me know. Thanks:D

Are you refering to this photos?

yes this is the one! hahaahhaahaaa
