Hi,

I'm trying to drill on HDB wall about 5 holes for a wall mounted DIY Project. After about 2cm deep, it gets harder to drill in. On the second try, the drill bits turn red hot. Is it because the drill bits not up for the job or is it the wall? Can anyone shed some light? Thank you.

Watch where you drill. You might be hitting reinforcement/tie bars in a structural element.

Tks Kit. No Structural or reinforcement/tie bars because the wall can be demolished for expansion. Is there any handyman that can come in for do this?

If u see the construction of wall, some wall has something like metal bars in between them.
And like what had mentions may be some metal structure behind.
Drill bit and gun for metal and wall are different too.

are you using a concrete drill bit like this?
if it is not, go to any PCK hardware stores to buy one.

btw, power drill with hammer action do make the job easier.

What drill are you using? If you're already using a masonry bit and a hammer drill, and unable to get deeper... may need to level up and try a rotary hammer drill, recommended for hard concrete. Something like this: http://www.estore.com.sg/bosch-gbh-2-26-re-rotary-hammer-(rental-rate-per-day)-p-16-170-2185.html

Yes, this drill will do the job. But get the correct drill bit..
