The Singapore Dragon Boat Association will be organising the Singapore Dragon Boat Festival 2002 at the Marina Promenade / Marina Bay from 15 Jun 2002 to 16 June 2002.
The Singapore Dragon Boat Association in conjunction with the Singapore Tourism Board, the People's Association, the Singapore Sports Council, the NTUC Club, the Central Singapore Community Development Council, the Singapore Press Holdings Limited, the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Singapore National Wushu Federation will jointly organise the Singapore Dragon Boat Festival 2002 to be held at the Marina Promenade on 15 and 16 June 2002.
Apart from the usual dragon boat races, a whole list of cultural and festival activities involving the various ethnic groups will be featured in the two-day event. The grand finale on Sunday, 16 June 2002 will be the special 1000 metres dragon boat race between the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University. They will be vying for the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy.
Visitors to the Festivals will also get to taste rice dumplings from the various Chinese ethnic groups in Singapore, thus making the Singapore Dragon Boat Festival 2002 a family oriented event.
As in the previous year, the two-day programme will include the following activities:
Poster Design Competition
Dragon Boat and dumpling making from recycled materials
Children's colouring contest
Children's karaoke competition
Calligraphy Competition
Dragon Boat telematches on land
Local Multi-Racial culture shows
Food and game stalls
Dragon kites demonstration
Cultural Village Exhibitions on:
History and significance of Qu-Yuan
Dumpling festivals celebrated around the world
Shanghai dragon boat cultural exhibitions
International Cultural Booths
Most innovative dragon boat team
Dragon boat joy ride for tourists
Team building experience for MNCs
Charity events
Lion Dance competition
