it has always been in the back of mind to get the 85 1.4 be it nikon or sigma for a very long time, i used to lug around the 70-200vr1 to take portraits... but i realize i never shoot more go over than FL of 100, and also i been in discussion with a few frens to go serious in weddings, and i always love portraits be it posed or candids...

I thought I can silence the voices in my head after I bought the 85/2 ais... but the voices are back after seeing the sigma.

A lot of AF 85mm f/1.4 D being dumped recently, aren't those worth considering? Or is it Sigma for faster and better AF?

juz sharing a pic to those that are interested to see how continous lighting and colour gels at work.. its an impromptu shoot so sorry abt the composition..

set-up is D3 with the afs 35 1.8 at f2...

with barfly lite slapped with lee moonlight blue gel, as to give a bit of colour on the right...

Dumped at high prices.

If really want 85/1.4D, will go HK and get new for around $1300. with international warranty too.

But really 85/1.4D also quite nice... :devil::devil:

some will swear by that the new 85 1.4D is god send, without worrying for failure to the afs motor, and the new version doesnt differ much, much cant be argue with LoCA and all the technical faults of the lens, as for me im leaning to the sigma as firstly HSM and the layman result that i see from my own test, im happy with... as for the focus speed not bad.... from what we tried that day...
next test is with FX,

either way the 85 1.4D is still a gem that u can consider too...

I'm still looking for one fast prime... dilly-dallying these days. Although ZCA's range of f/1.8 are damn poisonous... I think I still haven't found my posion just yet... hence taking my time...

Can do already lah... It's a hefty prime lens - more than worth it's value! :thumbsup:

I TC only... Will never know if I'd go f/1.4 for now... say say only...
