Was in Laos last month for a short holiday.
Sharing some pics.

A novice monk decorates a boat made of bamboo at a temple in Luang Prabang.

The boats are decorated with candles and electric lights.

Monks decorate their Wat (temple) with candles and colourful lantern to mark the end of the Buddhist Lent.

The locals carry their boats in a procession, down the main street towards the Mekong river.

Each of the 7m to 10m long flaming boats are set adrift on the Mekong River.

Locals with individual floats in their hands reciting a prayer, to worship the River God, as well as to let all the bad luck and misfortune drift away with the boats.

only #5 taken with flash.

Shot with AWB, cocour corrected in Photoshop.

A local lights up her provisions store in the town of Pak Beng using only an oil lamp to save on electricity.

does the locals feel offended even if the legs are out of the boats and not facing anyone? i dunno if the caucasians did that becos they thought doing as such is ok if their foot is not facing someone.

If i remembered correctly, the feet should not be raised above a certain level also.
But I think the boatmen are used to these behaviours already, since 95% of us on the boat are tourists.
