I have already sold off my D40 n lookin forward to a new D90 in April..

Try with Tommy from Harvey Norman in Square2 (formerly Novena Square). Can get a D90 with 18-105 Kit lens for about 19xx with 5 Years warranty. Lesser, if you are not interested in the additional warranty provided by HN. Usual freebies include: 8G SD HC Kingston Card, Tripod (ok for regular use), Camera Bag, Cleaning Kit, and Lens cover. I checked around the prices before the purchase from the places that are recommended in the "recommended shops" thread in CS. In the end, I found the +4 years warranty more attractive and the prices the places quoted didn't differ much or was out of stock.

Yes, HN could be a bit expensive, but there's a lesser chance of a newbie like me being overcharged because their pricing is usually standard and the extra years of warranty will come in handy if wish to sell the unit after few years of use. Would highly recommend to take along a friend if possible who's well versed in photographic equipment.

Btw, Tommy's name might appear in more of my posts to come, but I'm neither related to HN or Tommy in anyway. Just a very satisfied customer because of Tommy's courtesy. Having seen customer service in a few countries and having experienced customer service in SG on very bad days , Tommy was extremely helpful. So was the other sales staff so far from HN whenever I had made any purchases from them.

18-105mm restrict and compromise on the zoom range, reckon sell and get the 18-200mm VR. Great travel about lens.

when my D90 with the standard kit lens try to focus... there is this noticeable sound coming out from the lens, like when you use your finger nails to scratch against the blackboard the screeching sound... is that normal?!?! i dun feel good about it

Switch off your VR and try? If still have means your AF module have problem, the sounds comes from friction between parts.

Another way to check is to go to manual focusing mode with VR on, then half press the shutter. If the sound is there, it is due to the VR module.

okie i switch off VR and focus in out in out on different objects and now the scratching sound is gone and all that is left is the machinery turning sound... normal?

when i am in manual focusing mode with VR on and press half shutter then is this click sound when i press and click again when i let go.... is that normal?

If i'm not wrong, it means that according to your testing, nothing is wrong leh!

I used to have a screeching scratching sound on my previous 55-200VR and had it sent to NSC. Found out that the AF module have issue and they replaced it for me (was still under warranty), cause it only screeches whenever focusing is taking place.

I used to have a screeching scratching sound on my previous 55-200VR and had it sent to NSC. Found out that the AF module have issue and they replaced it for me (was still under warranty), cause it only screeches whenever focusing is taking place.

but thats after i used your method, anyway i sent to NSC to take a look at it, i hope they do something about it, cause my set is almost brand new, less then a week this thing happen...
