D400 spec

I have the feeling Nikon would prefer people to buy a D800/E or eventually a higher MP model 2013 and use it in DX mode.

Just to follow on that point you raised, I wonder if many people continue using DX lenses to a large extent, even some time after switching to an FX body. For example, would someone continue to use a 17-55 DX or similar, on a camera like D800/E, rather than switch to 24-70 or equivalent? ;)

No I guess not because I wouldn't but I always thought the main reason to buy something like a hypothetical D400 stead of a D600 is to get more reach at longer focal lengths while having a high pixel density. For a standard zoom range I would never consider APS-C.
