"zero" mm focusing is good. but u may be end up touching the lens.
Is there any compact or slightly higher end compact that can put a filter infront and have good macro function? It quite an oily n dusty enviroment I m in.

i think for camera's like fz5 and s2 they have a lens adaptor to add filters. for my macro work i usually add a 55 > 52 step down followed by my nikon 4T and my hoya +4..hoping to get a raynox dcr-250 if it gets through.

i think its possible for the other compact cameras to add macro functionalities and other stuff to it, aside from the camera's built in macro functions. look for cameras like canon/nikon which has teleconverters or adaptors to add attatchment to the camera's.

0cm is just a term to describe how close the marco mode can take but not asking you to touch subject to lens (though you can). Most of the prosumers allow you to have filters. As for oily and dusty, dun worry too much as long as you are not going to touch the lens with your oily fingers or spill oil over it. Filters can protect against the dust.

Yeah...by the way i'm not using nikon so i'll get the canon 100mm macro if i'm really venturing into macro.

I doubt any compact cams can do 1:1 macro.

As mentioned by Gern Boi, the Nikon coolpix 4500 is a very good comapct camera with great macro ability. And it can produce ont only 1:1 but 0.45:1 :bigeyes: .

In fact, it would be good because you can tilt the lens to get more depth across a plane object if you shoot at an angle. He bought the TS lenses after seeing the results from the PC85. Sorry I can't show any pictures because they belong to my ex company. I'll post if I can find some test shots. I'll need to search through my CDRs.

TS lens give very good DOF especially if you are doing product shoots.
