non of us ever said it was a bad photo :)

Of course I do. There's no problem, 99% of the photos made in the world are just crappy snapshots and can not be considered as good. Guys who don't apply very basic rules of portraiture pretending making art are not more genius than me or you, they make bad photo, that's a point and I'll not come back on it.

When guys here will understand that make a photo is not just a question of point and shoot but it's a whole package of things to know and to take care before you can just start to think your photo may just be considered as good. There is no problem to cut fingers of a model, but when you know it's better to not do it, at least the good thing is to think about at the next photo session and stop pretending it's art. BECAUSE IT IS NOT ART.

In portrait forum, problem is worse as everybody think that a beautiful girl is enough to make a good photo. But a snapshot will remain a snapshot how beautiful may the girl be on it. If the point of the forum is to show beautiful girls, why not. But if the purpose is to make art and to show beautiful photographs, however is the model on it ... it's not reached yet.

I do agree with this and that was the point i was trying to get across as well.

aiya don't be embarassed or discouraged...just take it as feedback so you can improve yourself down the line. Take it in your stride my friend...that being said i like the look of it...nostalgic in a way coz of the faded look...how'd you go about desaturating these in PS?

Well, stougard and garou, like I said there are two schools of thought, although the one I belong to may be in the minority. You both obviously feel very strong about it, so be it :). To me, it's not enough to argue about. There are only a few of us who don't go by "standards", which may come across as stubborn to what others say, yet also paradoxically more open.

As for art, it is personal. There are some art worth thousands, yet not my preference. I only care about their financial value and future appreciation in value.

Well, stougard, glad to have made you laugh, we need humor sometimes. Your self-portraits have made me laugh too, thanks for that :). I hope that was your intention putting them up in the portrait subforum ? If not, I am sorry, but art is just too personal, how it affects one.

i like the new ones even more! Grade "AA" !:thumbsup::thumbsup:

why don't you put your money where your mouth is and come up with a more concrete argument for your point...if you have a truly valid rebuttal i'll concede your point to you. but again your arguement is flawed...the art that has appreciated in value...go look at it all...its all held at a high standard and all contain some very complex techinques...maybe we should have a thread about this instead of oting here.

aiyah.. my thread is more of a Kopitiam already...:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

at Clubsnap??;p

No, in his answer.

There is not 2 schools, there are many schools and many way to reach a good photo. But in none of them the purpose is to do anything in anyway. As any artistic making, photo is a technical process before anything else. Make a piece of art is not making anything and rely on the luck to get a good result, make a piece of art is using all your knowledge, all your practical experience to make something. Random may be part of the process of course, but that does not remove the fact that you have to know the technical process and all the rules to make it work.

In fact, his answer is more than a lack of culture, it's an insult to Picasso. He considers that his photo of a nice girl with fingers, feet, legs or arms cut can be assimilated to Picasso style.

Before AF exists, this kind photographers made unfocused photos and say it's art taking Hamilton as a sample of blur photographer.

Make me remember a critique of the King to Mozart : "There is too many notes", and Mozart answered : "there is exactly as many notes as it's necessary". That's art, when the photographer knows exactly each part (I'll not say pixel) of his photograph. I know some photographers who can do it with a Leica, that's very strong. It's just bad faith to make us believe that cut finger is a wanted process.

hey peanut post your pano one le...it's the best looking shot of her and i like how you made use of negative space in that one too.

a true beauty, this made my day!

apologise for lurking but you've alot of great stuff on there. share here so people can see how talented you are.

hey peanutbeer, great beauty shots here!!! i like the desaturated set and the head shots... :)

i agree on the point that garou and stougard mentioned. the chopped fingers are a bit distracting. crop where the audience would still feel/see continuity, e.g. in between the joints. i have a suggestion though, burn that part to give attention on the model's upper body... hee hee... :D

clubgrid made a good point also, however, I feel that if the chopping of the fingers made sense here, then I would agree. Sometimes, focusing on what to hide in photos is a good practice to make huge impact on the entire picture. It would make audience feel and think. :D IMHO.

Well, stougard and garou, thanks, sorry, don't have much time to write, still got loads of rolls to process ;p and more coming ... plus work too, makes me tired just thinkin about it ...

Anyway, I respect your views and I do not care about changing that. I have my own views too, and lest it be misconstrued, I have no intention to influence anyone's opinion. We don't get along, fine with me. It is all about my point of view, take it or leave it, no problemo. Debates are inconsequential to me, I have my own mindset. Overall impact holds more value to me, and I can forgive the rest, and this will not change.

So, good luck in your photography, or if you guys hardly shoot, all the best in your critiques (a few of which I actually agree with; hey, it's a great vocation too, just not my choice). As for me, back to shooting and working etc ... sheesh, 24 hours just doesn't seem enough these days for everything ...

.

thanks James yah she looks like Uma... ive met you at Hannah's studio shoot right??.. hows life treating there? still got chance to shoot like this? ;)

Yes, I was at Hannah's studio shoot as well.

Everything is rather expensive in Vancouver. Especially after adding tax and the currently strong Canadian currency. Looking forward to come back end of year for more shoots. But nonetheless, very impressive set of shots you have here. :)
