so you embrace a philosophy based on how enjoyable it is?

Nope. You don't embrace something because your enjoy it. Enjoyment would probably only come initially, like doctors giving kids sweets, so that they won't be afraid of the stranger doing the check-up. Once you're lured into it, you get to decide by yourself whether it is meaningful to you. If it is, then you'll embrace it. Of course, it'll be sweet if enjoyment comes with discourses. If not, you'll still embrace the philosophy, cos it's meaningful to you.

Err... you guys know what is existentialism right?

Yes! The moral police will give you cute little tickets. But frankly, what is a morally correct punitive measure anyway? I really can't think of any.

So the moral police, would probably just be ineffective in deterring anything, other than just instilling some guilt in you.

once again, to recap, no actual crime was commited. so, why talk about punitive measures?

will they look like SnapSnap's tickets? :sweatsm:

Nah! They would probably be in the shape of either translucent teddies or camisole. :bsmilie:

You guys read Asimov's Foundation Series?

Well, we're talking about moral police catching crimes that infringe moral laws. Even if the act is not done, the immoral thought itself makes the person guilty. But the problem is that, at this moral level, no punitive measure could be meted out, simply because it won't serve any purpose in deterring others from doing the same, i.e. committing moral crimes, without the actual criminal act.

existentialism and asimov's foundation series.

just what i needed to prod me to sleep.

thanks guys! :)

Oh? These mutants don't shoot laser beams from their eyes or carry out telekinesis?

Hmm... I guess that's the point of view that most of us here share. It's probably one of the reason why it doesn't make sense to be so faithful with institutionalized/organised religion. I mean, if teachings are common across the religion, why focus so much about following one religious practice and outcast others?

Anyhow, the quote is a bit too simplistic too. Religion is not just about teaching. It's more about solace and spirituality. And mdm, I believe in no spirituality. So, I don't really know how to explain religion. :bsmilie:
