If you're in San Francisco and can find a few hours of time, consider visiting Chihuly's exhibit of glass sculptures at the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park. The exhibition is on until September 28.

The museum guards and other museum staff are the friendliest I've encountered - they seem genuinely happy to be working there and are glad to explain things to you. Photography is allowed, but no tripods obviously (tripping hazard).

The artist has lots more photos at his website. If anyone has visited Monterey Bay Aquarium and saw the glass jellyfish, he's the same guy.

very nice photos and glass sculptures!

The Ikebana boat seems very manga influenced. I see similar mass gathering of shapes and colors in Japanese Manga that feature processions. Example, Paprika, Pom Pom and a few other shows.

Writhing mass of tentacles... I think I've read a couple of those :bsmilie:

The glass sculptures are amazing. Standing under some of his chandelier-like creations that must weigh a couple of tons (they're disassembled before being transported, then re-assembled at the site of the exhibition), what ran through my mind is "This is beautiful. There better not be an earthquake until after I get out of this place".

very nice sculptures... i think you can shoot or cropped closer for maximum effect.
