Hi,

Wonder if it is true.

My friend went HK recently and being told by the shop's salesman that there is no longer an international warranty for Canon lenses since Oct 2010.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Your friend is telling the truth. Canon SG also have replaced the international warranty with local warranty since middle of last year.

If you are looking to save money, you can consider buying gray sets (water goods) from HK. Gray sets are usually cheaper than local sets since they don't carry any warranty (some shops do provide shop warranty) so if you are not going back to HK to claim warranty service, you might as well save a bit more with the gray sets.

for lenses and bodies bought in HK, can we purchase extended warranty in Singapore? or we have to purchase extended warranty from HK?

If you bought SG local set, Canon SG will provides the warranty. If the local set is bought from HK, Canon HK's name will be on the warranty card. Since they are all 'local warranty only' now, Canon SG will not provide any warranty repair or extended warranty to Canon HK's items. They will only repair them and charge parts and labor.

thank u for the info..
