think we need a bit more details about your fren's requirements and shooting habits before we can give any kinda comments/suggestions. e.g. megapixels, zoom, features, size, etc.

but offhand, for value for money, get the Fujifilm 2800Z. bestseller on the consumer market, good zoom range, uses AA batteries (so you can use rechargeables) & picture quality is pretty good. hope that helps. :embrass:

Ok make it serious, with 1k you can get full featured super big zoom at 2.1 megapix Oly Uzi borthers if he/she is interested in picking up photography...
