Buying Gears Online

i'm looking for a particular item for my cam but the model i want
is discontinued. i found the item on sales on the internet by a
foreign supplier (online shopping). cost wise is pretty reasonable.

my question are;

anyone tried buying gears online and shipped them in?
is it safe? (few hundred $)
anyone has a reliable source for online shopping for cam gears?
