1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Composition and lighting.

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
I wanted to capture the beauty of a sunset as viewed from a place near the sea.

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Taken at Changi Boardwalk at around 6.30pm. I used an old Panasonic Lumix LS2 P&S camera. Have since upgraded to a Canon 450D.

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
Personally I feel that this is probably the best photo that I have ever taken. Hope to be able to take more shots like these in the future.

Thanks for helping out the newbie here!

Welcome to CS. :)

The image is on the soft side, you might need to sharpen it when resizing.

If you can brighten up the sunset on the floor surface of the boardwalk it will be better, if can not it will be better to trim off 1/3 of the bottom of the photo since no details shown here.

Try to follow the Rule of the Third which will improve your photo composition.

agreed with SilverPine, since your focus on the sun and the sky, following the rule of third meaning 1/3 foreground and 2/3 sky will definitely improve the composition. Try not to cut your photo into half. Your foreground seems to be underexposed and also clutter. A GND filter will help in the proper exposure of the foreground and the background

Thank you all for your critique. Hope to be able to learn from you guys here!
