Black on Black

Recently... while playing with my cam ... I ran into some trouble shooting black on black ...

Anyone has any tips on shooting black stuff (ie black tee, black cups etc) with a black background?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! TIA!

camera meter does not know you are shooting all black items, place a gray tone on the item and fill the frame, take meter reading and lock it, use this setting to shoot the black item.

of you can dial -2EV and see the histogram to fine tune again later.

once you get your exposure right for your black subjects, the next thing you want is some background separation light.. maybe a lamp or some other light source shining at the back of your subject to "outline" it against the black background, otherwise it merges with the background and you can't really see it..
