Huge blaze spotted on reclaimed land off north-eastern Singapore
Singapore | Updated today at 03:36 PM

A huge blaze was spotted on a piece of reclaimed land off north-east Singapore on Sunday afternoon.

The piece of land is not joined to mainland Singapore. An Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) spokesman confirmed that the fire was ongoing.

The only people on the 'island' are land reclamation workers, SCDF added.

yea.... wasnt it near pulau tekong?

This would have come after the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) transferred firefighting responsibility in the port limits of Singapore over to the recently established Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF): Civil Defence Marine Command (CDMC) just a month ago on the 1st of April 2012 in the aftermath of the September 2011 Royal Dutch Shell's Manufacturing Site fire incident at Pulau Bukom. Quite literally their first major "trial by fire".

Also it seems to be a good opportunity to activate the Changi Airport Group's (CAG's) Airport Emergency Service (AES) two Griffon 8000TD hovercraft from their Sea Rescue Base (SRB) for an impromptu aircraft ditching exercise scenario. :bsmilie:

From my sources and cross-referencing with the nautical chart, technically you can say the fire occurred offshore of Pulau Tekong in an area undergoing reclamation though I'm left confused by the statement indicating "that the fire was on an island between Singapore and Tekong island".
