Hi, Guy this sun I going to beijing for a free and easy trip cum photography as this is my first time to there may I know do major shopping centre do sell AA size Alkaline battery or Ni-MH rechargeable battery with charger any advise is much apprecited

beijing is such a large city, you may find many shopping mall there. Zhong Guan Cun (中关&#26449 is recommended, malls there mainly selling electronic products. Just take a cab to reach there. hope this help.

Beijing is a modern city, and you should be able to find AA alkalines easily just about anywhere. I didn't spend much time in the shopping districts like Wangfujing, but I'm sure you could find rechargeables there very easily too, though I would think it would be simpler to just bring your own rechargeables and charger and standby in the hotel room.

Beijing is a modern city with >15 million people. And you'll find that their shopping centres are much larger than ours, and some of them are better than ours. There are many shopping centres specialising in electronic goods, books etc. You can get things that you cannot find here in SG.

Get a 一卡通 from any major subway outlets with a RMB20 deposit and top up with RMB30 and that will last you 10days of public transport by city subways and city buses. Subway is RMB 2 per ride and bus RMB 0.40 per ride. Fares are flat. Please avoid rush hours.

Perception of "backwardness" of China is severely and grossly misplaced. Open our eyes and you'll see what they have that we don't. There are many things that they've that we in SG have not implemented. Blind men walk pass are found on most pavements; not in SG. Many of the city buses have Wheelchair restrainers to secure the wheelchairs that have boarded; we have none. Buses operated exactly like our Easi-link with 一卡通, and per bus ride costs only RMB 0.40 (SGD 0.08, yes eight cents). And the next stop is announced. All bus stops have names and are posted at the bus-stops. (Get a bus map - sold everywhere for RMB 5 only) And eatinig in Beijing is cosmopolitan if you know where to look for them. Many of the good ones need local knowledge. What you read on the web are places that have prices markup to match the tourist and those establishments will spoil your enjoyment of this lovely and vibrant city.

Do make a day trip to Tianjin by chinese Bullet from 北京南 station (can be reached by subway) ard RMB 60 round trip

Do some search, be smart and you'll enjoy Beijing.........

After you buy the 2day-pass to get into Zhangjiajie National Park, Hunan, you need to have your thumbprint match to the card. Sama sama SG immigration digital self check-in @airport

And where in the world people wake up in a cold and sometime freezing morning @4-5am, make their way to Tiananmen to watch the chinese flag being raised at sun break? I turn up one ordinary morning @5am during my trip to Beijing Nov 2009 and the crowd on the Square was unbelievable. It was damm cold that morning (snowfall was early last Nov). It's an experience you must try once... terrific...

If you need maps of Beijing (or any other Chinese cities), can go to China National Tourism Office at Suntec Tower 1 Level 12, there are racks of maps available. Open on weekdays during office hours only.

Beijing is a modern city with >15 million people. Blind men walk pass are found on most pavements; not in SG.

Assuming 1% of the Beijingers (not to mention those non-residents that keep pouring into the city in search for fortunate) are blind, there are more than 150,000 blind people on the streets .
Not so many blind people in SG, a must for Beijing to have blind men walk pass
