Aperture Setting

I find that taking group photos using f3.5 does not seem to result in clearly sharp images. Is that a better setting I could have used to get better results?

Try f8, 1/60 or 1/90. Assuming you are using outdoor daylight. Otherwise, get strobes.

I'm shooting with external flash. Indoor and outdoor during evening time. Perhaps a smaller aperture like f5.6 might do the job?

hang on a moment...firstly, what focal length are u shooting at? and is this done handheld or on a tripod? digital? etc etc etc....

any number of reasons could result in unsharp images ... not just f stops

Shoots are done on digital handheld, 28mm, consistently between f3.2 - f3.5, 1/200 sec, ISO 100. I used omnibounce on my external flash and set to a 45 degree bounce (when indoor).
