Hi, Me just upgraded from pns and now going full time into dslr. Like to know for macro lens, what sort of filters are recommended or is it better to go without? Also for telephoto lens, what sort of filters to recommend? I usually use the zoom lens for landscape type of photography over hills  and at sea. Usually sunrise and sunset as well.

UV and CPL?

Care to explain what both of their characteristics? Still new to filters. Or direct me to some good reading materials online. Thanks!

you could google..

"uv filters" and "circular polarizing filters"

btw theren't any filters that are "specific" for a certain lens.. except perhaps the UV filter (to protect the lens).. the filter is there to generate an "effect" that you want to produce for the picture..

There are several threads that discussed the use of filters.

You can try wiki for a start on a discussion of the more common filters used.

I personally like to use Grad ND filters and Polarisers. ( links are largely incomplete .. )
Others may beg to differ.

Ryan
