Thank for the sharing. Too bad there a time limit.
Yes time is limited and I cannot answer all the questions and aslo there are many who wanted to ask after the session.
BTW to answer some queries that some have asked me via PM...
Yes, I do use bounce card with flash.... not all the time but depend on situation. I find the best bounce card (though you pay a bit more but worth the $) is the Rouge Light Bender seen here
ExpoImaging, Inc.. got it from Cathay
Special Offers: Rogue Starter Lighting Kit | Cathay Photo. I use the smaller one as it is more portable and smaller footprint.
I also use direct flash, it is more a fill in and the exposure setting is at or near ambient light.
No I seldom use external battery nowadays, bec of good high ISO and very accurate flash that my Nikon system have ie D4, D3s and SB910. Plus shooting at near ambient light, my shooting speed is usually 1/50 +/- , (unless very fast action) when using flash, hence does not consume too much power.
Camera and lenses.
I used to carry a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm - mounted on a D700 and D3s each. But it is heavy and I am not getting any younger.
But now I only use the 28mm-300mm f/3.5 - 5.6, (very good lens, sharp and relatively fast on a D800 and D4) this is because the new high iso capable camera allow such lens to be use in rather low light condition - unlike many years back.
I carry a 20 and 24mm prime in case I need the wider angle.
As a back up I carry the D800 in my bag but woill shoot a lower res - This is purely a back up in case something happen to my D4.
Do I use Canon or other brand camera? and why?
Yes I use a Mamiya 67 and 645 with a Leaf Aptus 8 for commercial and studio work.
No I do not use Canon or other bands. The reason is because I started off using Nikon, as such I find it too troublesome and expensive to change system. Canon, Olympus and Fuji have very good cameras and lenses as such if you are using them, think about the cost vs the real benefit of switching system. Seriously, I can safely say hardly any ppl can really tell the difference between a picture taken from Nikon, Canon or other camera. But many if not all can tell the difference between a good photographer and a bad one regardless of brands and model of camera, lenses used.
Finally thank you everyone for your presence. And on behalf of ClubSNAP and the participants a Big Thank You to Singapore Art Museum and Nicole and to all the mods and James who came early to help - Thank You
