In a world high speed techie driven digital photography..

Its breathe-taking to see an old world analog wonder, being awarded both the TIPA and Japan Camera Grand Prix 2005 Special Prize.

This would be Nikon's analog 35mm flagship..

Some quotes..:

from the Camera Grand Prix Press Release..

"To release the flagship model of film SLR cameras during the rapid spread of digital SLRs is considered a great corporate achievement. Thanks to the F6, a wide range of users - from professional to amateur - are now rediscovering the excitement of film SLR cameras."

From TIPA:

"It seemed unlikely that the world would see true innovation in a new analog SLR camera, but Nikon have managed to prove everyone wrong and pull it off!"

Thom Hongan says F6 is the greatest ever film SLR...

Despite tough competition and a crowded market, Nikon managed to grab TIPA's 2005 award for Best DIGITAL compact camera. That means TIPA still see NIKON as a major player, since most of their awards are usually distributed amongst the major players.

Success in the digital market is important to ensure that Nikon can still afford projects like the F6. Because they are not going to sell as many F6's as DSLR's.

I mean what's F6's competitors anyway? Leica's down and Contax's out. Canon couldn't be bothered, and Olympus' four-third system is definitely not planned for film.

Probably the last great film camera, and definitely not a renaissance. Rather sad really.

Looking just at this forum.. there are many people that are going back to film.. so film may yet enjoy a renaissance.. in a more power artful way..
