Alternative lens for EOS other than Leica and Zeiss

I have a few manual focusing Mamiya prime lenses cross adapted onto a German Mirex tilt shift adapter ( Mamiya M645 has larger image circle ) on my 5dMk2.

Here are some examples :

i probably will stick to mamiyas for a while. These good old Mamiyas still retains their edge pretty well, and are my indispensible landscape lenses

Thanks. Which are the focal length of the Mamiya that in your view are must haves and produces best of breed IQ.

The 24mm Fish Eye and 35mm are great lenses even at the corners. but the 24mm has an obvious CA at the extreme edges which can be fixed somewhat post processing ( noticeable if u do shifting of lens to the edges - but i cannot see any reason why one would want to mount the 24mm Fish Eye on a 35mm camera because it behavies as a very bulky and heavy 24mm with bad curvature correction unless for t/s work ).

55mm i seldom use. it has an occassional flare issue when i do tilt shift. i am not sure if it is some light leakage of sorts. Same goes for the rather heavy 150mm f2.8 which is even more prone to wierd flare even without tilting / shifting. ( which i seriously suspect might be the t/s adapter issue )

BTW, don't seemed to be able to open your links. Would like to check out the colour rendition and the bokeh of your Mamiya lenses.

The adapter Ryan is using is a Tilt-Shift adapter from Mirex.

If you want to use Mamiya 645 lenses on an EOS body without movements, look for Fotodiox or other ebay adapters. ;)

Here is the nifty German Mirex t/s adapter if anyone is interested. tilts and shifts more than the usual N/C offerings. http://www.mirex-adapter.de/tilt_shift_adapter.htm.

Now. if anyone with a mechanical engineering background who can come up with an adapter for LF digital lenses ... (and not charge more than 500 bucks) woooot!

My Schneider Super Angulon PC 28mm/2.8 works pretty well on the EOS mount ( originally got for Nikon mount, but easily adapted to EOS ) But it produces warmer pictures than ur usual c/n lenses. not that many of us will mind.

The CY 50f1.7 is a very simple lens to use and it's sharp from f1.7, so you will have the flexibility to shoot wide open or step down depending on situation. If you have any mirror problem, bring it down to P & G and get David to correct it for you. I love its drawing style, very natural and very 3D.

Hi Anthony, i got a planar 50mm 1.7 that stuck with the mirror on my 5D. Where is P&G that you said can fix the problem ? Thx

oh, pls don't forget voigtlander's nokton 58mm f1.4... its one helluva good lens! :)

The AI/AIS series of Nikor MF lenses are excellent. Some lenses need slight modification like the 20f2.8 and 50f1.2. Most of the rest are OK. The 105f1.8 & 105f2.5 AIS are very popular.
The 28f2.8 AIS with CRC can be considered side by side with the Leica Elmarit 28f2.8 and the CZ Contax 28f2.8.

Pentax Takumars, the earlier M42 Pentax Takumars especially those Super-Multi-Coated (S-M-C) Takumars are the best. The current Pentak K mount MF lenses are also fine lenses but most of them need some modification to remove the aperture lever and the 'fin'.

Agreed....Takumar, Nikkor AiS, Olympus Zuiko, CZ for Contax/Yashica are good lens for Canon DSLR
