advise on taking big group photos

if its inside a ballroom then not so bad as can get more lighting simply by turning on the lights or worse case using high beam lights aimed directly to brighten their faces.

if outside then pray pray the sun is on your side.

2000 is possible but you will need to enlarge significantly to identify who is who.

2000 man hours is 250 working days for one person

250 working days is more than a year of work

if you work 8 hours a day and 20 days a month

that is not a ballroom actually..

the biggest ballroom can hold is about one thousand guests, if shooting a group photo of one thousand, at 70 pax a row, that will be 19 rows, where to find a ball room have such height to arrange 19 rows? the ballroom floor may collapse also.
