And here's part II. ;)

5. The Observatory Tower is based on a mid-12th century mound. The flagpole lies within a tower erected by a prison governor in the 1820s to observe the sky at night.

6. The main keep or the motte of the castle is called the Lucy Tower. It is probably built in the late 12th century as dated by the stones. Now approached only by a flight of steps, it contains some graves of prisoners mainly 'felons' housed in the adjacent goal.

7. Regular events are held within the castle. These include both musical events and historical re-enactments.

8. The three towers of Lincoln Cathedral in all its splendor, are visible in the background.
