if only use on-camera, is there any advantage of getting 580exII ?
what will be the limitation other than the flash power ?
thanks for kind advise.:)

Weather sealing.

the angle also... i can't rem if its left or right angle...

Can 430exII's flash head rotate so that it can point at our front subject or ceiling with cam body either in vertical or horizontal position ?

can... but i can't rem it its only restricted to the right or left side. for 580exii, both side can.

based on my experience of owning the current 580EX(apart from the faster cycle time and weather seal on 580EXII should be the same la :D) and preowned 430EXII:
580ex more power (GN 58 vs GN 43)

580ex faster cycle than 430exII

580ex can twist 180 degree to left or right and 7 degree down(usefull for very close up shoot) while 430exII can oly twist 180 degree to the left and 90 degree to the right(some time is a bother when i'm shooting on portrait with my DIY bounce card)

580ex got strobo flash function, 430exII no

580ex can act as wireless master while 430 exII no

580ex can use external powerpack that can further enhance the recycle time and safe critical time from changing the battery, no external battery slot for 430exII

now u decide :D

It's 430 EXII.

If you don't need your flash to be a wireless commander, the 430EXII will be sufficient. It's powerful enough for most situations and personally, I find its size and weight balances very well with both smaller (500D) and larger (7D) bodies. The extra power of the 580EXII will come in handy if you do bounce flash or use a diffuser (which will cut the flash power quite a bit).

The 580EX2 is useful when use in off-shoe as well. For example below I am using the flash as floodlight for the pool.

To me you can always step down the 580EXII but you can step-up for 430EXII. The power pack also come in handy when you are doing events.

If you have the cash, go for the 580.

yep, if you have the cash, go for the 580exII - it is slightly better in all aspects than the 430exII.
but consider this: from practical usage, the 580 is at the most half a stop more powerful than the 430. this is based on my use of the flash with umbrella.
yes, the 580 can take battery pack, but if you use batteries like the powergenix, the 430 can recycle in 1sec even at full power! how fast do you need to shoot?
if you are a casual user, you probably don't need the specs of the 580.
cheers!
