Here are the differences of 580EX II.
-Slight design changes.
-20% faster flash recycling rate.
-Weather-sealed body.
-Shoe mount is now clip type and made of metal.

One added advantage i read on the forums is that the irritating high pitch whine when the flash is charging up is gone.

Actually i prefer the recycling sound cos it tells me when my batts are getting weak.

the noise of the battery charging up is indeed very irritating for 580ex mkI. but maybe the only good thing about the noise is, at least u know u have switch ur speedlite on. hahaha!

one more difference is price differene! heee and its like 10-20 bucks. so if u r getting either, do get mkII!

Agree, the MK II looks boxier, resembles the 550EX.
